Indian Catholic News

A Trusted Source for Church-Based Information

Indian Catholic News was founded to respond to a growing need for a unified, credible, and easily accessible news and information service dedicated to the Catholic Church in India. Across India, many Church bodies—such as the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI), Conference of the Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI), the Syro Malabar Bishops’ Synod (SMBS), the Holy Episcopal Synod for the Syro Malankara Church, Caritas India, and individual dioceses—regularly release press statements, pastoral letters, and circulars. However, their communications remain scattered across platforms and underused.

Our mission is to gather these official communications and make them easily available in one central, trustworthy platform—India’s own version of Vatican News! By presenting content issued directly by Church authorities, Indian Catholic News aims to ensure that the Church’s voice in India is heard clearly, accurately, and consistently.

What We Do

Indian Catholic News compiles and presents content that has already been issued by Church bodies in a readable, accessible, and media-friendly format. We do not produce original or investigative reporting. Instead, every news story is drawn solely from official press releases, statements, circulars, pastoral messages, and reports issued by recognized Church authorities.

Our goal is to provide a consistent and unified voice for the Church in India—free of editorial spin or external agendas. The platform serves as a single, reliable repository of official Church communications, statements, and activities, while also giving diocesan-level news a wider audience.

How We Work

We actively collaborate with official Church communications personnel across India. We invite communication officers from dioceses, Church bodies and agencies to share their press releases, circulars, statements, and pastoral documents with us, along with an accompanying photograph.

Our editorial team maintains ongoing contact through email with these offices to ensure timely access to new materials. Once received, content is quickly edited for clarity and consistency, formatted for easy reading, and published online.

All stories are organized under easily navigable categories, including CBCI, CCBI, Syro Malabar and Syro Malankara synods, Caritas India, and individual dioceses. This classification system allows users to quickly locate updates from specific Church bodies or regions.

Why This Service Is Needed

Currently, there is no centralized Church-run service that brings together the diverse official communications of the Catholic Church in India. Many dioceses and Church agencies lack the resources to share news and information beyond their immediate communities, leaving significant initiatives, experiences and pastoral insights under-reported or inaccessible.

Indian Catholic News addresses this gap by providing an authentic and unified voice for the Church in India. By publishing Church-issued material faithfully and without editorial distortion, it promotes transparency, accuracy and wider access to the Church’s teachings, positions and pastoral initiatives.

This platform provides dioceses with a valuable opportunity to share their stories, ministries and experiences with the wider Church. It serves as a common space where dioceses can showcase their way of being Church and contribute to a richer understanding of Catholic life across the country.

By enabling Catholics in one part of India to learn how fellow believers in another region live and express their faith, the platform fosters greater appreciation of the Church’s diversity while strengthening communion, mutual understanding and faith among its members.

The platform also serves as a verified and easily searchable resource for journalists, researchers, Church personnel and the wider public, offering reliable information directly from official Church sources and creating a lasting archive of the life and mission of the Church in India.

Our Vision

Through Indian Catholic News, the Catholic Church in India can communicate with clarity and credibility by centralising and amplifying its own messages in a format that is easy to read and access. This platform strengthens ecclesial communication, promotes transparency, and fosters greater understanding and connection within the Church and beyond.

Mission Statement

By gathering and presenting official communications from Church bodies across the country in a readable, accessible, and media-friendly format, we ensure that the Church’s authentic voice—rooted in faith and grounded in truth—is heard consistently and effectively across India and throughout the world.
