Ivan Fernandes

Ivan Fernandes is the founding editor-in-chief of Indian Catholic News, an initiative dedicated to strengthening the Catholic Church’s voice in India through clear, credible and accessible communication.

For all of his professional life, Ivan, a former Jesuit seminarian, has sought to integrate professionalism, spirituality and a pursuit of excellence in his work. With more than two decades of experience leading the main editorial desk at Union of Catholic Asian News and nearly 10 years as managing editor of La Croix International, he brings deep editorial expertise and an international perspective. His work has consistently focused on ensuring journalistic integrity, high editorial standards and content that serves both the Church and the wider public.

Indian Catholic News was created out of Ivan’s conviction that the Catholic community in India deserves a positive, authentic and unified presence in the media. The platform centralises official communications from Church bodies across the country and presents them in a readable, media-friendly format, making it easier for journalists, institutions and readers to engage with the Church’s own voice.

Ivan is convinced that the Church needs to be more open in its general communications with the public, and that amplifying credible Church positions is the most effective way to engage with society and address misinformation—particularly in response to negative or inaccurate coverage on social and mainstream media.
