(Indian Catholic News) Sister Sujita Kallupurakkathu, a Sister of Notre Dame, says genuine interreligious dialogue begins with humility and respect. “We are all the children of God,” she told Common Home TV, urging Christians to avoid approaching other religions as if they “have it all.”
Born in Kerala and serving as a missionary in Bihar, Sister Sujita emphasized that learning about other faiths must be more than intellectual. “It’s not only a head experience, it is a relational experience,” she said. “I can relate to you as a Buddhist, as a Hindu, as a Muslim… I’m not more than you, I’m not less than you, I’m one of you.”
Her life reflects this conviction. With advanced studies in social work, communications, and spiritual direction, she has worked among Bihar’s poorest communities. The Indian government appointed her to lead a UN-backed project for women’s education and empowerment.
In 1998, she became the first Asian Superior General of the Sisters of Notre Dame, serving two terms. Today, she continues to guide retreats, seminars, and government commissions, advocating for the poor and marginalized.
