NEW DELHI (Indian Catholic News) — Catholic Church leaders in India’s capital are expanding an educational mentoring program to help young people compete for government jobs and university admissions.
The Archdiocese of Delhi has expanded its youth coaching initiative to help students prepare for India’s competitive examinations, including the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) for government jobs, the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) for university admissions, and the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for elite civil services such as the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and Indian Foreign Service (IFS).
Together, these exams represent gateways to higher education and public service careers in India.
Delhi Archdiocese’s orientation program to support young students for these exams is scheduled for June 14.
In a circular dated June 10, Archbishop Anil Joseph Thomas Couto of Delhi announced that the archdiocesan Laity Commission, under the initiative Pehal – Ek Prayaas (Initiative – A New Effort),” has partnered with the Justice & Peace Commission and Chetanalaya to broaden educational support for young people.
The archbishop said the coaching program focuses on “guiding and mentoring the aspirants” through “regular classes, supervision, doubt clearing and regular assessment.”
He praised the participating commissions and encouraged students to make use of Church facilities. Aspirants will have access to the Diocesan Community Centre Library, while “a space at Chetanalaya basement is also being created and prepared for classes and study purpose equipped with reference books.” Chetanalaya is Delhi Archdiocese’s official social service centre.
According to the circular, enrolment will be completed after interaction with students. Candidates will be charged a token fee of 1,000 rupees, covering “coaching and mentoring through classes reference books, study materials, regular assessment etc.”
Archbishop Couto described the initiative as a “golden opportunity” for young people and urged parish priests and pastoral leaders across the archdiocese to encourage eligible students to participate.
