NAGPUR, Maharashtra (Indian Catholic News) — Archbishop Elias Gonsalves has decreed the mandatory recitation of the “Memorare” after Eucharist celebrations across the Archdiocese of Nagpur.
Highlighting a desire “to deepen the spirit of prayer among the faithful and to entrust the Archdiocese more fully to the maternal intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary,” the archbishop invited believers “to seek her powerful intercession for the safeguarding of human dignity and religious freedom”.
Following the example of St. Francis de Sales, patron of the archdiocese “who faithfully recited the Memorare in times of crisis, challenges and difficulty,” the decree mandates the prayer “in all parishes, chapels and religious communities, formation houses and convents”.
The order requires the prayer “after every celebration of the Holy Eucharist, following the Final Blessing and preceding the Recessional Hymn”.
“All parish priests, rectors, superiors of religious houses and those responsible for liturgical celebrations are bound to ensure faithful observance of this norm,” Archbishop Gonsalves stated. The decree, published in the most recent edition of the archdiocesan bulletin, went into immediate effect on Jan. 24, issued on the Solemnity of Saint Francis de Sales from the Archbishop’s House.
